Los Angeles City Guide

The best part about Los Angeles is there's never an "off-season" here. Come in January or July and you'll be treated to awesome weather, exciting activities, and beautiful scenery. Diversity is apparent in LA - it's a melting pot of all races and backgrounds creating a very unique urban landscape. Here are 5 Can't Miss Activities in LA:

1) Take a Hike to the Hollywood Sign

There is nothing more iconic than the gigantic "HOLLYWOOD" sign at the top of the Hollywood Hills in LA. Overlooking both the valley and city side of Los Angeles, the Hollywood Sign is the #1 tourist hike in the world. In just about 45 minutes, you can walk top the peak of the Hollywood Hills and get within arm's reach of this iconic sign.

Insider's Tip: Be careful though - the area right next to the sign is off limits and rumor has it that the sign has it's own police force that actively arrests trespassers!

2) Walk The Star Walk

You've seen it on TV - Hollywood Blvd is lined with over 500 "Stars." These aren't real people - they're Stars that have been embedded into the pavement to honor the biggest and best names in LA. See names like Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, and more as you follow the path around downtown Hollywood. It's literally like walking down memory lane!

3) Surf and Sun in Santa Monica

Santa Monica is the best beach and pier in LA, bar none. They have awesome amusement rides like a 9-story Ferris Wheel, Roller Coaster, and more. Free beaches that are clean and family friendly are a plus - and parking is reasonable. There's also great Farmers Markets, specifically on Sunday Mornings with some really interest street vendors, a bike valet, and more dogs than you can count.

4) Catch a Baseball Game at Dodger Stadium

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the most iconic baseball teams in the world. Tucked away behind a park in LA sits Dodger Stadium, home to the LA Dodgers. Before you dismiss going to a baseball game, reconsider - there are plenty of ways to get cheap dodgers tickets. There are various discount options such as CrowdSeats.com or the downtown ticket shops near Hollywood.

5) Malibu Beaches

If you love beaches, you'll absolutely love Malibu. Carved beautifully into the pacific coast, the beaches of Malibu line up right next to the cliffs and mountains so it literally looks like its carved out of a giant mountain range. Temperatures range between 65-75F (18-24C) almost year round so you'll be sure to find a sunny day to enjoy this amazing scenery. If you're from the east coast, you'll be welcomed to a surprise - free beaches all across Malibu!

Insider Tip: Don't use the Metro. It seems like a good idea, but it is so fragmented that traveling across LA takes even longer via Metro.

Best neighborhood to visit is Santa Monica. Santa Monica is quickly becoming known as Silicon Beach due to the large amount of technology companies that call it home. Santa Monica is the tourist's mecca in LA - just 20 minutes from LAX and 20 minutes to downtown. You have everything from a beach and pier with amusement rides to local farmers markets and amazing eateries. If you're anywhere near LA, add Santa Monica to your itinerary.

The TMZ Hollywood Bus Tour is a can't miss attraction in LA. First off, you might get lucky and see a star during the tour. Even if you don't, you're still in for a ton of fun as an open-topped bus wanders around Hollywood. The experienced tour guides know LA inside and out and show (and tell) you things that only the locals know about. Pricing varies depending on the day, but expect to spend about $30 per person. Again, this is a can't miss!

Tips for Flying > Plan your trip

Avoid school holidays: Many cheap airlines take advantage of school holidays to increase their prices, as they expect to have a larger number of passengers than usual. During these periods a late booking (1 week before departure) may result in your paying more than the price of a ticket with a regular airline. It is therefore advisable to avoid these periods, if possible.
